The application of BioRemove FOG Boost to frequently clogged sewer lines led to significantly reduced grease deposits.
A 500-mm (20-inch) gravity sewer line serving a road with a high concentration of restaurants’ wastewater required cleaning as often as every third day to prevent blockages and sewage overflows in the manholes.
After review of the problem, three manholes were treated with BioRemove FOG Boost over a two month period and monitored for visual changes in the grease layers and the water depth.
Visual changes were notable quickly after 3-4 days. Over the next two months, a progressive change from the thick, crusted, tan grease deposits covering the entire manhole surfaces to thin, light tan deposits covering 50% of the manhole surfaces was observed. Water levels in these manholes dropped from 20 to 50 cm (4 to 20 in.), indicating that grease buildup had also been reduced. No physical cleaning, overflows, or sewer backups occurred during treatment with BioRemove FOG Boost.
Temperature can play an important role with collection system applications since biological degradation rates are lower during cold weather months. Water temperatures as low as 59° F (15° C) throughout the trial demonstrated that BioRemove FOG Boost excels in reducing grease even at colder temperatures.
The bioaugmentation program was easy to implement and provided significant benefits over alternatives. BioRemove FOG Boost resulted in:
